Terms of Use

The basic ground rules for using crosswordguru.com. Short, written in plain English, and intended to be fair to everyone reading this.

Last updated: May 9, 2026.

The short version

We make a magazine. You read it. Don’t republish our articles wholesale, don’t use the site to break the law, and don’t blame us if a Wordle starter word ranking turns out not to suit your specific morning. We’ll do our best to keep the magazine accurate, available, and updated. That’s most of what these terms cover. The rest is the kind of thing lawyers ask publishers to put on a page.

1. Who these terms apply to

These terms apply to anyone who visits crosswordguru.com, subscribes to our newsletter, or otherwise interacts with content we publish. By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, the site will work fine without you, and we won’t take it personally.

2. What we provide

CrosswordGuru is an online magazine covering crossword and word puzzles. We publish articles, reviews, news pieces, strategy guides, and the occasional list. Our editorial standards are described in our editorial policy. We do our best to publish accurate, well-sourced work, but we cannot guarantee that every claim in every article is correct in every detail. If you spot an error, see our contact page.

3. Content ownership

The articles, images, and other content on this site are owned either by CrosswordGuru or by the original creators (e.g., Unsplash photographers, whose work we use under their respective licenses). You may:

  • Read our articles for personal, non-commercial use.
  • Quote a short passage of an article (under 100 words) with attribution and a link back to the original page.
  • Share article links freely on social media, in newsletters, in messaging apps, etc.

You may not:

  • Republish our articles in full on another website.
  • Train a machine-learning model on the contents of this site without our written permission.
  • Reproduce our distinctive design (the cream/red magazine theme, the Fraunces wordmark, the section eyebrows) on another publication.
  • Use our editorial team’s names, photos, or quotes in advertising for unrelated products without permission.

4. The newsletter

If you subscribe to our weekly newsletter, you’re agreeing to receive that newsletter at the email address you provided. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link at the bottom of every newsletter, or by emailing [email protected]. See our privacy policy for what we do with the email address itself.

5. External links

Our articles link to many third-party sites — publishers, dictionaries, reference resources, news outlets, and puzzle communities — to give readers access to context, source material, and tools beyond what we host ourselves. We do not control the content of third-party sites and are not responsible for it. Outbound links are editorial choices, not endorsements of any kind beyond what the article itself says.

6. Acceptable use

When using the site or contacting us, please don’t:

  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our infrastructure (servers, databases, admin tools).
  • Send us spam, malware, or content intended to harass our editorial team.
  • Scrape the site at a rate that interferes with normal availability for other readers.
  • Impersonate our editors or our publication.

7. Disclaimers

The site is provided “as is.” We try hard to keep the magazine accurate and useful, but we make no warranties about the completeness or accuracy of any specific article. Our reviews are the editors’ opinions, formed after at least 30 days of use of the product reviewed. Strategy guides are advice, not guarantees — if you follow our Wordle opening-word recommendations and lose your streak, that’s genuinely a shame, but it’s not legally our fault.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CrosswordGuru and its editors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content. Specifically: if you read our review, install an app, and don’t enjoy it, that’s the deal we all signed up for as readers and writers of opinion content.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally. When we do, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page changes. Material changes will be flagged on the homepage and in the weekly newsletter for at least 30 days.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which CrosswordGuru is operated. Any disputes that can’t be resolved informally (and we strongly prefer informal resolution — email [email protected] first) will be resolved in the appropriate courts of that jurisdiction.

11. Contact

Questions about these terms: [email protected]. We’ll always try to give you a real answer in plain English rather than a forwarded form letter.
